SHOES FOR THE SOUL
Recently an elementary school counselor from one of our Partner Churches started a program at his school called “Shoes for the Soul” to go with their coat closet, hats/scarves/mittens, backpack stash, and school supplies replenishment drawers.
Following a huge rainstorm, a student wasn’t participating in class and shared with his teacher that his shoes were wet. She called to let the counselor know, and the need was met quickly thanks to some generous donors and a loving teacher. While helping him pick out some shoes, the boy shared that the water had been almost up to his knees. He had no socks and his shoes had not dried overnight. He picked out a pair of socks and these Spider-Man shoes on his own, and strutted back to class, even showing two staff while making that trip.
The purpose of these programs: to treat students with dignity and respect so they can be their best selves.
